What is acupuncture?
There is a two-way communication between the skin & all the organs, glands, & tissue of the body. By stimulating certain points, the progress of the condition can not only be arrested but even reversed bringing the patient back to health with normal function. Huh? Yeah, think of it like this: there are little highways under the skin that transmit signals back and forth. Acupuncturists learn these pathways and use them to treat conditions. There are documents "protocols" (treatment plans) that are thousands of years old.
What is a typical treatment?
Electronic acupuncture is the fastest method and does not require needles. The machine used is called microcurrent and in a billionth of a second it has sent the signal that leaving a needle in for 15 minutes does. Most patients are treated with the microcurrent machine right after an adjustment. There are two probes with cotton swabs on the ends that are dipped in alcohol and placed on very specific spots on the body. Clothing is kept on and most of the time you don't feel the treatment. Everynow and then you can feel a slight tickle but it's not very regular.
How do you know what you're doing?
Dr. Greg was fortunate enough to have been an Intern under Dr. Richard Yennie at the Acupuncture Society of America. Dr. Yennie is credited as being one of the pioneers in bringing acupuncture to the United States and spent 50+ years teaching students (Chiropractors, Medical Doctors, Massage Therapists, etc) how to treat patients. Dr. Greg was fortunate enough to have over 650 hours in acupuncture and is a Board Certified Diplomate in Chiropractic Acupuncture. This feat is accomplished by less than 1% of Chiropractors in the World.
What conditions do you treat?
Traditional Chinese Medicine developed treatment protocols for conditions that we have just recently named. The Chinese (and later Japanese & French) developed treatment methods for over 2,000 conditions. The methods used are not the same as they would have used thousands of years ago but the results are likely the same, it oddly seems to work. We wish there was a simple list to display but there are too many that have been treated with acupuncture. Feel free to bring in your challenge!
What if I don't like needles?
No worries!! Most patients are treated with an electronic machine that does not break the skin. It uses current to treat the same points that a needle would treat. Feel free to go home after treatment and show your significant other google pictures of people with hundreds of needles in them...unfortunately we won't be doing that.
Does acupuncture work?
If you ask Dr. Greg he'll likely make a wise-crack comment about it only working in China. Then he'll try to explain the results he's seen first hand while he knows it shouldn't have worked. See his bio then come back to this answer. You can imagine his level of skepticism and doubt that the results shown were due to acupuncture. Either way, the condition treated either went away or decreased. Odd timing, it must have been. (sarcasm)
